Place within the University
In addition to the University's technology development activities, the Center's key functions include researching and developing joint projects with industry and other public bodies, and bringing these projects into the economy through implementation.
For this reason, besides contributing to academic departments, the Center aims to strengthen the University's outreach. It will also serve as a shared space where academic and non-academic institutions can develop projects together.
Fields of activity
To build the capacity to meet the country's scientific and practical needs in geographic information technologies; to carry out education and research; and to design, develop and implement innovative systems and technologies.
To develop software and hardware systems for national use in geographic information technologies, and to conduct scientific and technological research on the criteria that set out the procedures and principles for applying testing and certification models.
To design, procure and operate systems for storing, sharing and presenting geographic data, and to make these systems available to researchers and institutions at national and international level.
To cooperate with similar national and international organisations; to carry out service, support, education, research and development activities that facilitate the effective use of geographic information technologies nationally and internationally; and to establish the infrastructure required for this purpose.
To create the service infrastructure needed for the effective use of geographic information technologies in scientific research; to follow new developments and publish; to train human resources; to plan for increasing the number of researchers able to use these technologies; to organise training courses, seminars, workshops, conferences and panels; and to raise public awareness.
To increase the competitiveness of the national geographic information industry by providing consultancy on education and expertise in geographic information technologies and by developing national and international research and development projects based on geographic information.
To become a member of national and international scientific organisations related to geographic information technologies, and to support faculty members in carrying out research and studies in Türkiye and abroad in the Center's fields of activity.
To raise awareness among the academic, public and industrial research and development sectors and the general public in the geographic/spatial sciences, engineering, social sciences and health.
